In the summer of 1952 I flew 47 combat missions in the Korean war in the F4U-4 Corsair fighter-bomber off the carrier Princeton (the “Bird Barge”). As a brand new husband and father at the time, I wrote my wife a letter almost every day, and she saved them all. In 1992 we reopened them. It was immediately obvious theat none of the scary stuff had found its way into the letters. So, from 40 year-old memories, I added that in. the result is a unque combination of quiet husband-wife romance interspersed with the roaring excitement and adventure of carrier-combat flying.
