Just Perfect Binding has come up with an affordable way to perfect bind small quantities of books using book tape on the spine. These books do not use the traditional wrap-around covers, but are still perfect-bound. The tape version works well with small quantities and the home/self publisher. You can use a standard size as 8.5" x 11", 5.5" x 8.5" and 7" x 8.5" or a custom size of your choice. This allows you to print your own text and covers, the same size, at home or at a nearby copy/print shop giving you more control in the printing of your book..

For example, you may have printed your 1/2" book on 8.5" x 11" sheets and want a wrap around cover. Here is the set up for an 8.5" x 11" book cover.
8.5" x 11" for Front and Back Covers
1/2" x 11" for the Spine width
1/8" bleed which most covers have. .
That totals a minimum of 17 3/4" for the width.

The tape version set up. We normally use a 2" wide tape. A 1/2" spine would leave 1 1/2" of tape to split between the front and back covers. That would mean 3/4" tape would be on each cover. If centering your design on the front cover, t looks better to center your design between where the edge of the tape will be and the finished cut on the face of the book.

In addition, when you bind a book with a wrap-around cover, you need to provide extra copies of both covers and text to cover any losses during the binding process. That could be quite an extra expense if you have a thick book.

The tape version involves perfect binding the front and back covers with the text, all of which are the same size. After binding, the glued spine is covered with a good quality 2" book tape. Books supplied as 8.5" x 11" will have a 3-sided finished trim (as all books), and in most cases, will cut no smaller than 8.25" x 10.75". In addition, there is no need to print extras, since there are rarely any losses with this process. Nevertheless, depending on the size of your book, a wrap-around cover may be more economical.

Compare the tape book prices below versues the wrap-around cover prices. You will need to keep in mind the cost of printing all covers to decide which method to use.

Prices are good for books up to 8.5" x 11" and not over 1" thick. All books must have the same amount of sheets per book. You may have a variation of only 4 more or less sheets per book before new adjustments will have to be made on the binder and new charges are incurred. If they are all not the same thickness, please advise and identify how many sheets per book on each book.
